Techniquest, the educational charity in Cardiff Bay, has welcomed two new recruits to its creative team.
The science discovery centre has strengthened its team in preparation for the next phase of its evolution as it strives for a sustainable future.
James Summers, from Llansannor, joins as its new Head of Projects, with extensive experience in science communication, a degree in Archaeology from the University of Southampton and a Masters in Environmental Conservation from University of South Wales.
Having spent the last three years managing national projects for the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres, James returns to Techniquest after previously working for four years as Education and Media Developer to head the team of content and development designers and managers.
As part of his role, James will ensure Techniquest remains up-to-date with the latest science innovations and is at the forefront of science engagement in Wales.
Working alongside James is Lloyd Williams, who brings over a decade’s worth of experience in design, communication and engagement. As the charity’s new Content Manager, he will be responsible for the creation and management of the centre’s scientific content.
The new appointments come on the back of Techniquest’s announcement of its long-term plans to radically transform its building with a £5.7m project known as The Science Capital.
Lesley Kirkpatrick, CEO of Techniquest said: “During this pivotal time for our organisation, it’s important that we have the right team in place to help us on our mission to deliver interactive STEM learning experiences for all ages. We’re thrilled to welcome Lloyd to the team, as well as welcome back James as he returns to us in a senior role at Techniquest.
“Both James and Lloyd are experts in their field, with excellent experience and a knack for innovation. They will no doubt be an asset to our team during this exciting phase of development.”
James discussed his return to Techniquest, saying: “I am excited to return to Techniquest at such a key point and help re-energise the curiosity, wonder and excitement of the latest scientific innovations and technologies in Wales.
“Techniquest is developing some amazing partnerships that will help showcase the importance of STEM industries throughout Wales. I’m looking forward to working with the team to widen our offering and reshape our customer experiences.”
