With Halloween on the horizon, a highlight for October is the adults-only ‘After Hours: Creepy Carnival’ evening on the 24th of the month. Visitors can get hands-on with two floors of exhibits, SFX face painting and glitter, a Science of Fear dome show, street food and a fully licensed bar. On the night, the Cardiff Cabaret Club will also be performing a carnival extravaganza with whip cracking, a killer clown and fantastic beasts.
Additionally, this October will see visitors discovering shooting stars and the Northern Lights at Planetarium Shows and watching bizarre chemical reactions that can create a giant tube of elephant’s toothpaste.
These new events follow a successful summer line-up, which included a silent disco via HUSH Collective and a retro gaming exhibition, as part of our bid to diversify our audience and bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to the masses.
As part of this drive, we announced plans to build our new ‘Science Capital’ extension last year, expanding our exhibition space by over 60% and introducing over 50 new exhibits to Wales’ much-loved science landmark.
An earthquake simulator, a virtual operating table and a hurricane tunnel are just a few of the new exhibits you can expect from the Science Capital in 2020, with over 50 new exhibits to be installed ready for launch.
The centre will be transformed and focus on five key themes – Environment, Medical Biology, Space, Chemistry and World Issues.
Content Manager at Techniquest, Lloyd Williams commented;
“Techniquest has undergone some essential building work in preparation for our hugely anticipated Science Capital, but we reopen in October and have some amazing shows and exhibits for all to enjoy. It’s Halloween season and that means getting spooky – whether you come with young ones or fancy trying our magnificent adults-only Admiral After Hours parties, we have something for everyone to enjoy and can’t wait to open our doors where a new season of celebrations begin.”
Techniquest will re-open on 1st October 2019, introducing new shows and events for all ages.
